Sharing Practice Library
It is important that in reviewing and developing decision-making processes around the funding of medicines and treatments, that PCTs develop locally the systems which work best for them and their local care structures. These should take into account the DH guiding principles for decision-making about medicines and the key steps highlighted in the supporting good practice Handbook. This will help to ensure that systems have good local buy in and that the processes developed are fully understood. Because of this, the Handbook gives short examples of current practice but does not provide any standard policies, procedures or templates to be adopted.
This current Sharing Practice Library comprises some examples of existing locally defined policies and procedures developed by PCTs or Provider Trusts and which reflect their local context. We are not ‘recommending’ the documents as examples of good practice to be adopted wholesale rather, they are included in the interest of sharing practice and experience across NHS organisations. We recommend that PCTs who are interested in how any of these processes were developed and how they are working in practice contact the relevant organisation.
We will be reviewing the content and purpose of this Sharing Practice Library and would appreciate feedback from anyone using it, both in terms of the content and how it might be made more useful. Please send comments to: Cathy Picton (feedback@npc.nhs.uk).
