Commissioners
	All managers working in the NHS, whether in commissioning, governance or finance teams, at director or non executive director level need to have an understanding of medicines. Medicines are used in almost all NHS services and the NHS spends around £11 billion (18% of its total budget) on them. This is the largest single expenditure in the NHS after staff costs. The NPC produces a number of resources to support commissioners in relation to prescribing and medicines management. In addition, the NPC hosts a medicines management database of improvement examples which allows you to search through examples of improvement that have been submitted to the NPC for sharing with the wider NHS.
