Would
you like an NPC Trainer to run a local workshop for
you?
In
September 2001 we began offering additional therapeutic-style
local workshops on request to a broader spectrum of
healthcare professionals as a trial development. After
receiving a phenomenal number of enquiries, we have
now delivered over 150 of these bespoke events to well
over 2000 attendees.
The
audience has included GPs, community pharmacists, prison
pharmacists, primary care technicians, as well as nurses
from both primary and secondary care. Most of the workshops
have been run on a multi-disciplinary basis and again
have been extremely well received.
We
can now offer to run events on the following eight key
therapeutic topics:
-
Management of common infections
-
Diabetes
-
Hypertension
-
Management of dyslipidaemia
-
Dyspepsia
-
Depression
-
NSAIDs and analgesics
-
Asthma
If,
for example, a PCT is interested in implementing a programme
around improving diabetes care, their team will need
to have a good understanding of the evidence-base underpinning
the therapeutics of diabetes. We can offer prescribing
advisers, GP Prescribing Leads, prescribing technicians,
nurses or any other relevant healthcare professionals
a high quality education session run by one of our experienced
trainers. These events could also be used to help support
the implementation of a specific piece of NICE guidance/
appraisal, e.g. coxibs, atypical antipsychotics, etc.
As
part of the developing work of the NPC entitled NPC
Plus we are able to offer these workshops on a much
wider scale than the previous pilot. In order to finance
this development, we will now be charging PCTs a fee
to cover our costs of running these events. Please contact
Trudy
Granby for details of this service and any packages
we can offer. For an information pack please contact
Sharon Wright (0151 794 8135 or email sharon.wright@npc.nhs.uk).
