This FAQ is directed at health care
professionals, educators and industry. Members of the
public are welcome to use our site, but should be aware
that our products and information are intended for health
care professionals and not specifically for the public.
The public should also be aware that the NPC does not
regulate medicines or prescribing.
We cannot respond to questions from
health care professionals about individual cases or
answer clinical questions about medicines. In the UK,
these questions should be addressed to UK
Medicines Information.
The NPC does not distribute BNFs or
hold spare copies of them. If you are a PCT prescribing
adviser ONLY, please fill in the form below to be added
to our database of PCT prescribing advisers. This database
is used by the Department of Health to distribute BNFs
to prescribing advisers. All other healthcare professionals
should contact the NHS Responseline directly on 08701
555 455 for extra copies or changes relating to mailed
BNFs.

The NPC supports
supplementary prescribing in a number of ways, but
we do not regulate it. See the Department
of Health Supplementary Prescribing page for links
to relevant regulations, policies, and other useful
documents.

MeReC technically does not stand for
anything any more, so it is correct to cite it simply
as MeReC. It once stood for Medicines Resource Centre
before that organisation was absorbed into the National
Prescribing Centre. It would not be correct to refer
to MeReC as "Medicines Resource Centre" as
that organisation no longer exists.

Prescribing Nurse Bulletin was discontinued
in 1999 and is now out of print. Most NPC publications
are produced in electronic versions only in order to
reduce costs. To ask whether a publication is available
in print, please contact Merissa Bellew on (0151)

The problem is likely that (a) you are
using an outdated version of Adobe Reader, (b) you have
limited bandwidth and your connection is timing out
before the file has finished downloading, or (c) you
are not waiting long enough for the file to finish downloading.
Here are two possible solutions:
1. Instead of left-clicking on the
link to the PDF document, right-click and select 'Save
As'. You can then download the document to your desktop.
Double-click on the icon from your desktop to view the
document. This will circumvent the time-out problem.
2. Download
Adobe Reader 7. This solves the blank screen problem
for many users.

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a
method of delivering news and updated content from web
sites. RSS feeds deliver information in a format called
XML to be read by a service or program called an 'aggregator'
or 'newsreader'. By using an aggregator, you can have
news and updates from multiple sources delivered to
a single place on the web or on your desktop. Two free,
easy to use aggregators are Bloglines
and NewsGator.
Using RSS, where available, can save
you from needing to receive multiple e-mail alerts and
from needing to visit web sites to see if they have
been updated. We have added RSS feeds so that our users
can save time and receive updated information at their
convenience and in their preferred format.
