Every PCT in England now has a nominated NPC Associate. Associates are the link people between the NPC and their PCT medicines management and prescribing team, and the wider PCT. We also have a Associates in nine hospital NHS trusts, as part of a wider pilot
NPC Associates are supported by regular interaction with the NPC, principally with Local Therapeutics Facilitators (LTF) and Medicines Management Facilitators (MMF). There is one LTF and one MMF for each strategic health authority area. LTFs are experienced NPC Therapeutics Trainers who receive additional support and training for their unique role. MMFs are supported by the Medicines Management directorate of the NPC, with its first class track record.
Associates meet regularly as part of a comprehensive ongoing educational and support programme on priority issues within prescribing and medicines management. This enables them to support and learn from each other as well as the LTF and MMF, to gain a good understanding of all the resources available (such as those on NPCi) and how these can be best used to their locality’s benefit.
