Database of health authority initiatives
n July 1997, a database of locally
managed initiatives on prescribing and medicines use was developed and distributed, in paper format, to assist health authority .
prescribing advisers in current and future work. In early 1999,
this database was |
subsequently made
available, in a fully searchable format, to health authority staff within a
password-protected section of the NPC website on the NHSNet. Information held within the
database includes project details with contact names and numbers of project leads.
Advisers can update information relating to their own projects/organisation and can read
project information from all other health authorities. |

regions in England
during 1998/99. At these meetings, an offer was made to financially support the
organisation and running of an educational meeting(s) for health authority prescribing
advisers (and others where appropriate) on a prescribing related topic of current
interest. The criteria for approval of funding (up to £1,500 per region for the year)
were that main outcomes of the event should be summarised in writing for potential
dissemination nationally, by the NPC, to key professionals.
During 1998/99, five regions took up the offer and ran events on a range of prescribing
issues. This initiative was well received by both advisers and regional offices and has
been continued into 1999/2000. |
