Accessibility

If you want to alter the way you view any web site, from the size of text to the colour of hyperlinks, you can change some of the options in your Internet browser.

To change settings for the current versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, follow the instructions for your browser type below. Note: These settings will change your browsers accessibility configuration for all websites.

Internet Explorer instructions

To permanently apply font and colour changes

1. On the browser Tools menu select 'Internet Options'
2. On the General Tab select, select 'Accessibility'
3. Click on the three boxes to show ticks
4. Click on OK

1. On the browser menu select 'view'
2. Click 'text size'
3. Choose the size of text

To change text and background colour

1. On the browser Tools menu select 'Internet Options'
2. On the General tab, select 'Colour'
3. Deselect the 'Use Windows Colours' tick box
4. Select the box next to 'Text' and choose a colour
5. Click on 'OK'
6. Select the box next to 'Background' and choose a colour
7. Click on 'OK'
8. On the General tab select 'Accessibilty'
9. Select the option to ignore colours specified on webpages.

To prevent graphics and images appearing

1. On the browser Tools menu select 'Internet Options'
2. On the Advanced tab, scroll down to the 'Multimedia' heading
3. Deselect the graphics options 'animations', 'videos', 'pictures' and 'images' by clicking on the boxes to remove the ticks
4. Click on 'Apply' then 'OK'

To change the size of the window

1. On the browser View menu select 'Full screen' or press F11

To change the colour of links displayed on a screen

1. On the browser Tools menu select 'Internet Options'
2. On the General tab, select 'Accessibility'
3. Click on 'Select ignore colours specified on Web pages' (should contain a tick)
4. Click 'OK'
5. Select 'General' tab and click on 'Colours'
6. Turn off the 'Use hover colours' tick box (should not contain a tick)
7. Select 'Visited' and choose the colour that suits you best, Click OK
8. Select 'Not Visited' and choose the colour that suits you best, Click OK
9. Select 'OK' for 'Colours'
10. Select 'OK' for 'Internet Options'

Mozilla Firefox (v3.x)

1. Click on 'View' menu
2. Select the 'Zoom' option
3. Click the "Zoom In" or "Zoom out" option to change the text size

To change text and background colour

Text

1. Click on 'Tools' and select 'Options'
2. Select the 'Content' tab
3. Click the "Advanced..." button, select your desired fonts and size.
4. De-select the option to "Allow pages to choose their own fonts...". Click OK.

Colours

1. Click on 'Tools' and select 'Options'
2. Select the 'Content' tab
3. Click the "Colors..." button, select your desired colours.
4. De-select the option to "Allow pages to choose their own fonts...". Click OK.

To prevent graphics and images appearing

1. Click on 'Tools' and select 'Options'
2. Select the 'Content' tab
3. Deselect the option 'Automatically load images' by clicking on the box to remove the tick
4. Click on 'OK'
