What we do
Evolving in line with changes to the NHS, the NPC work programme aims to support the development and implementation of the significant challenges outlined in current health care policy. The NPC delivers a wide range of activities and support through a coordinated work programme. Key elements of the programme include:
Evidence Based Therapeutics Support includes the MeReC portfolio of prescribing and therapeutics resources, a well-established New Medicines programme and a broad-based, “face to face” educational programme targeted at key audiences. The NPC virtual learning environment, NPCi covers around fifty clinical conditions commonly encountered by
front-line health professionals.
Medicines Management Support. The NPC has a portfolio of resources and programmes to support good practice in medicines management services across all healthcare environments. The NPC virtual learning environment, NPCi covers around thirty key medicines management topics.
Supporting Prescribers. NPC resources support the activities of all prescribers. In addition the Non-medical prescribing programme at the NPC promotes and supports the continued development of non-medical prescribing through effective policy implementation, advice and targeted support.
Supporting Policy into Practice. The NPC supports the dissemination of good practice and regularly produces documents to support local action and decision-making. Specific programmes include ongoing support for PCTs and stakeholders around the NHS Constitution right to rational local decision-making and support and resources for Accountable officers and those involved in the management of controlled drugs.
Significant Developments. The NPC has responded to developments in NHS Policy and the needs of key audiences by fundamentally changing the delivery of its work programme to ensure greater accessibility and timeliness of its outputs and to provide resources for local adaption within individual health economies. Key developments include NPCi and the NPC Associate Programme.
